Qualifications
Please remember it is your responsibility to verify the legal requirements needed to apply for your Oregon Concealed handgun License
In addition to following US Federal Law requirements, you must:
- Be a citizen of the United States or a legal resident alien who can document continuous residency in the country for at least six (6) months and has declared in writing to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services the intent to acquire citizenship status and can present proof of the written declaration to the sheriff at the time of application for the license.
- Be 21 years of age or older.
- Demonstrate competency with a handgun by taking a firearms safety course from a certified firearms instructor
- Be an Oregon resident or a resident of a bordering state (Washington, Idaho, Nevada or California) AND have a current address on your driver’s license
You may not:
- Be convicted or found guilty of a misdemeanor, within four (4) years prior to the date of application.
- Be convicted or found guilty of a felony.
- Have outstanding warrants for your arrest or be free on any form of pretrial release.
- Have received a dishonorable discharge from the U.S. Armed Forces
- Have been found to be mentally ill and not be subject to an order that the person be prohibited from purchasing or possessing a firearm as a result of that mental illness, or have been committed to the Oregon Health Authority.
- Be an unlawful user of, or be addicted to controlled substances.
- Be subject to a citation for stalking or a protective order issued pursuant to certain statutory provisions
